Finding the Story in Science, Health and Technology.

I find the points of human connection in STEM industries to help you tell your stories with emotional resonance.

My Background

I have spent over a decade writing and producing science and technology documentaries for the likes of the BBC, National Geographic and Channel4.

My documentaries have covered a broad range of subjects; from space travel, animal behavior and tribal anthropology to aviation, infant cognition, climate change, human longevity, and marine archaeology.

My Value

I am a storyteller first. I specialise in translating challenging concepts, sophisticated science, and powerful human stories into written content that is compelling and clear for a non-specialist audience. I have been doing it for documentaries for years. In this complex information age, industries easily fall fowl of getting lost in their own industry jargon and the minutiae of their work, often losing sight of the big picture, and how they’re helping to improve society.

I come to you with a fresh pair of eyes and an inquisitive mind. After getting to know you and your company, I will translate your sophisticated work into content that is clear, comprehensible, and above all, interesting, without compromising on your message or the complexity of your work.

I will achieve this by conducting in-depth research, speaking to experts in your organisation, and reading quickly and widely about the subject, to turn myself into a mini-expert in your field. From there I will find the STORY in your mission and help you present your work in a way that’s accessible and compelling with real narrative drive.

  • My work is informed by the science of story-telling. I have read widely on the neurology of communication and have developed proven techniques to help you engage your audiences emotionally as well as intellectually.

I have developed a 45-minute online story seminar, helping your teams tell better stories.

" We had the pleasure of hosting Jack Chapman during our UX Breakfast, where he delivered an insightful presentation on storytelling. He skillfully explained the history and importance of storytelling, using well-chosen examples like videos and images to illustrate his points. His practical tips on improving our reports and articles were particularly valuable, providing us with actionable takeaways. The session ended with a lively Q&A, where employees had the chance to engage and ask thoughtful questions. Overall, it was an inspiring and enriching presentation that left us with a deeper appreciation for the art of storytelling and its relevance to our work."

Jack Chapman conducted a mini-storytelling seminar for our advocacy, communication, and media team in Sudan. The session was well thought out, providing a brief history of storytelling along with relevant examples. Jack also incorporated some of our recent products and offered valuable feedback on how we can improve our communication materials from an end-user perspective.

Overall, the session was engaging and served as a great reminder of the power of storytelling and how to use it to achieve maximum impact and connect with our audience. Jack demonstrated a strong understanding of storytelling through visuals, which is crucial for effective communication and evidence-based advocacy for us and a child rights organisation.
